Everyone has a personal story to tell.  The Summer Creative Writing Workshops provide opportunities for storytelling and the skills needed to do it well.

The U.S. Embassy announces with pleasure that, in partnership with Writers in the Schools of Houston, Texas and the Cultural Envoy program of the Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau at the Department of State, our three American Corners will have a writer-in-residence this summer to teach creative writing classes to children and teenagers.

The four-day Summer Creative Writing Workshops offer a supportive environment where children engage in writing stories, poetry, essays, and plays, as well as simply reading for pleasure. Through these activities even the most hesitant child discovers the joy in writing, the intrigue of language, and the confidence of authorship. Students will work with Merrilee Cunningham, an accomplished poet, university professor, and experienced creative writing teacher from Houston, Texas, as well with a local counterpart.  Low teacher-student ratios will ensure sufficient individual attention. Enrollment will be limited to twelve students per class.

All participants will receive a certificate from the U.S. Embassy after successfully completing the workshop.  Tuition is free.

The 2008 Summer Creative Writing Workshop is open to all primary and secondary school students.  The selection will be made on first come first serve basis.

The 2008 Short Summer Creative Writing Workshop will be offered at three locations in Macedonia: The American Corners in Skopje, Tetovo, and Bitola.
